This page covers everything related to how payments work at Hobby Box — what methods we accept, when you are charged, how sales tax is applied, and what happens if a payment fails or a dispute arises.

Accepted Payment Methods

We accept the following payment methods for all online orders:

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit and debit cards. Apple Pay, for customers using Safari on iOS or macOS devices. Google Pay, for customers using Chrome and compatible Android devices. All payment methods are processed with the same security infrastructure and carry no additional fees.

In our physical store at 2600 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234, we accept cash and all major credit and debit cards. Contactless payment via Apple Pay and Google Pay is also accepted in store.

All prices on our website are listed and charged in U.S. Dollars (USD).

Payment Processing

All online payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. When you enter your card details at checkout, those details are submitted directly to Stripe’s secure payment system. Hobby Box does not receive, see, store, or have access to your full card number, expiration date, or CVV at any point in the transaction. We only receive a payment confirmation and the last four digits of the card used for your records.

When You Are Charged

Your payment method is charged at the moment you complete checkout and your order is confirmed. You will receive an order confirmation email immediately after successful payment. Your card statement will show a charge from Hobby Box.

For pre-orders, you are also charged in full at the time of purchase to secure your allocation. See our Pre-Order Policy for details on what happens if a pre-ordered product becomes unavailable.

Sales Tax

Hobby Box is required by law to collect applicable sales tax on orders shipped to certain states. Tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address and the applicable state and local tax rates. The tax amount is displayed clearly before you complete your purchase, so there are no surprises.

Failed or Declined Payments

If your payment is declined at checkout, your order will not be placed. Common reasons for a decline include incorrect card details, a billing address mismatch, insufficient funds, or a fraud flag from your card issuer. Please check your card details and billing address and try again, or use an alternative payment method. If the problem persists, contact your bank — declines are issued by the card issuer, not by us, and we are unable to override them.

Fraud Prevention and Order Holds

To protect our customers and our business, orders that are flagged by our fraud detection system may be placed on hold for manual review before shipment. If your order is held, we will contact you within one business day at the email address you provided. We may ask you to verify your identity or confirm your shipping address. Orders that cannot be verified may be cancelled and fully refunded.

Disputes and Chargebacks

If you have a concern about a charge from Hobby Box, please contact us at hello@hobbyboxny.com before initiating a chargeback with your bank. In most cases, we can resolve the issue faster than the chargeback process and with less disruption to you. We take all billing concerns seriously and respond promptly.

If a chargeback is filed without prior contact, we reserve the right to provide transaction evidence to the card issuer, including order confirmation, delivery tracking, and prior communications.

Refunds to Your Payment Method

Approved refunds are always issued to the original payment method used at the time of purchase. We cannot redirect refunds to a different card or account. See our Refund and Return Policy for full details on timelines and eligibility.
